Venerable Gyoshu Sasamori (Sasamori Shonin) ordained as a monk of the Nipponzan Myohoji order in 1976 (at age 25). For five decades, he has dedicated his life to spreading Fujii Guruji's mission through walking for peace, prayer, fasting, and peacebuilding around the world.
His work has included assisting construction of Peace Pagodas in Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, Austria and the United States, peacebuilding work in Nicaragua during the civil war, and international peace pilgramages around the world.
In 1979 he was instructed by Fuji Guruji to come to Poland. He first came to Poland in 1980 and conducted a 10 day fast at Auschwitz. In 1994 he returned and led the historic Aushwitz to Hiroshima Peace Walk (1994 - 1995).
He returned to Poland permenantly in 2022 to fullfill his mission of building a Peace Pagoda in Poland. You can see him walking and praying or fasting for peace in Warsaw. Very easily recognized by his saffron yellow Nipponzan Myohoji robe while walking, beating his prayer drum and chanting NaMuMyoHoRenGeKyo for peace. If you see him stop and say hello!
